15 - 24 January 2024
Japanese architecture is a stunning amalgamation of tradition, innovation, and meticulous craftsmanship. Rooted in ancient traditions and embracing modern influences, Japan showcases a unique architectural landscape that captivates the senses. From historic temples and shrines to Japanese Metabolist structures, from the works of international starchitects to contemporary buildings by local architects, Japan seamlessly combines the old and new. The country's architectural prowess lies in its attention to detail, harmonious integration with the natural surroundings, and a deep cultural reverence for balance and simplicity.
This 10 days tour will be an intensive exploration of 20th Century and contemporary architecture in Japan. There will be a lot of walking and public transport use. A certain basic level of fitness is required and it is best suited for architecture graduates, architecture students, architects and independent travellers.
We will start and based initially in the capital, Tokyo for a number of days, exploring the various enclaves before going to explore Osaka and Kyoto amongst other places in the Kansai region. Returning to Tokyo for the end of the tour.
